This Week's Inspiration!
Janina Kallio's Marrakesh Shawl is a grandiose crescent-shaped shawl featuring garter stitch and lacy chevron panels. We chose three colors of Malabrigo's Silkpaca, a plied laceweight yarn which is a blend of light, soft baby alpaca and drape-y, lustrous silk. The result is an airy, light, gorgeous shawl with dramatic graphic punch! We've kitted it in four colorways, all currently available in the shop, and -- of course -- we'll be bringing these with us to Stitches South!
Zip It!
We posted a picture of our new adorable Llama project bag and notions pouch on our Instagramaccount a little over five weeks ago...and sold out instantly! We heard you loud and clear and ordered another batch immediately. While we were at it, we also ordered two additional designs -- Quill and Bicicletta -- in the same two sizes. These bags are every bit as cute as they are functional. The project bag measures 11.75" x 6.75" and is perfect for toting around a work in progress! The notions pouch is 7" x 3" and can be tucked inside the project bag, but it's cute, why would you want to hide it? These are available in the shop now and they'll be coming with us to Stitches South...if they last that long!
New Yarn!
A new-to-us yarn just arrived in the shop -- Savannah, from Baah! Yarns in California. It's a beautiful, soft blended fingering weight yarn made of merino wool, cashmere and nylon. Each skein has 400 yards, so there's plenty of yardage for your next shawl project. We knew immediately we wanted the Melodia shawl from Janina Kallio as our model for this yarn. This crescent-shaped shawl is a perfect one-skein project that highlights this yarn. Knit in garter stitch with delicate eyelets sprinkled throughout, it's available now in the shop...and yup, this will be coming with us to Stitches South!
The Yearlong Knitalong: Chevron Mosaic Baby Blanket!
The month's almost over, but we're still working on the Chevron Mosaic Baby Blanket, inspired by a stitch pattern from knitting legend Barbara Walker! It's not too late to join us if you like! Walker strove to discover those moments in knitting when something seemingly intricate turns out to be very easy. Finding color work's bobbins and multiple strands of yarn cumbersome, she developed a slip-stitch technique she called "Mosaic Knitting, " a clever way to create elaborate, colorful patterns using only basic stitches (knit, slip and occasionally purl). As Walker herself discovered, there is beauty in simplicity...and the simplicity is front and center in the Mosaic Blanket (although you won't have to tell anyone just how simple it actually is to make!). Not interested in making a Mosaic Blanket? You can still join the Yearlong Knitalong with an afghan block pattern from the Haus of Yarn Block-a-Month Afghan book.
As a genuine 'thank you!' for your participation, all materials purchased at Haus of Yarn that relate directly to each month's knitalong will qualify for double stamps on our Haus of Yarn Reward Card. DOUBLE STAMPS! We really do appreciate your participation and want to encourage as many of you to make as many of the monthly projects as possible. Earning double stamps will make it that much easier!
Not local? No worries! Join the Yearlong Knitalong virtually. We'll be creating threads for each Knitalong project in our Ravelry group. Click here to join our group and come knit along with us!
We'd love to see your projects! In process or completed...if you're on Instagram, join in anytime with #yearlongknitalong and #hausofyarntn.
