Fresh Off Our Needles: Ursa!

When Ursa hit Ravelry back in March, we knew instantly we wanted a shop sample. We were just a little indecisive about what yarn we would use. Ursa is knit with a chunky yarn and let's face it -- we just don't have that many cold days in Tennessee to warrant wearing such a warm sweater! But then we came across a yarn that's a healthy balance of cotton and alpaca in the perfect weight! Wiklla is a squishy blend of Pima Cotton and Superfine Alpaca made from Peruvian fibers. The Quechuan word Wiklla means “twisted,” and this double ply yarn has a wonderfully soft hand with the warmth of alpaca paired with the softness, breathability, and sheen of pima cotton.

 

WIth simple construction and interesting detailing, this cropped bulky weight pullover is a quick and enjoyable knit. The sweater is constructed from the top down with raglan shaping for the sleeves and optional horizontal bust darts in three cup sizes. The pattern includes directions to try it on as you work and notations to help you tweak the size (including the length, if cropped isn’t your thing!) according to your preference. Also included in the pattern are links to custom video tutorials that will walk you through the techniques for half brioche stitch and German short rows. Yearlong Knitalong: July!

Join us next Monday, July 1, from 11:00 am until noon for the July installment of the Haus of Yarn Yearlong Knitalong; we'll be working on Tiny Tassels! It’s a simple little triangular garter shawl, but what makes it special is the tiny tassels! The pattern is written using one skein of a fingering weight yarn. Make the triangle larger by using two skeins of yarn, or you could use a thicker yarn -- it’s your choice!
